Nina's at Niagara-on-the-Lake
During our visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake we stopped at this cute Gelateria on the Main Street called Nina to get some lunch (but I was really only there for the pastries). My eyes lit up and my tail got bushy when I walked in to find all of my favorite French pastries lined up all prettay! Mixed Berry Brûlée, White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake Tart, Tiramisu, and a host of other treats. I was immediately indecisive (yummy overload) but then something special caught my eye... Everyone who knows me, knows that lemon tarts are my best friend and vice. I also love raspberry anything and give me a cronut, cruffin or anything croissant adjacent and I'm thankful. These people had a raspberry (clap) lemon (clap) croissant (clap)! Waaat!? I was immediately swirly like Mr. Krabs. Did I read that correctly? All my top notch favs melded together in harmony? Literally the Lannister's of the whole line up (read: royalty - also bare with me as I'm only on season 3 of GOT... they may fall from grace at some point but right now, they run it!).
I decided on that treat with confidence and since we had little time and need to eat Candice insisted that we get food from here too. I was briefly hesitant but I knew she was right. They had these sandwiches that didn't look too delicious thru the glass but the description caught my eye after I know it would be pressed like a panini. It was this little prosciutto, pesto, havarti cheese and tomato on a baguette of sorts... I usually HATE sliced tomatoes but they looked thin and I didn't want to make a fuss so I told her to wrap it up! Candice got the veggie with burrata and added prosciutto (yum!) usually weird about actual food but I decided to take chance here ( since the they had ice cream and pastries). When this lady handed me that warm pressed sandwich and that Lannister croissant, the energy just felt good.
I took a bite into that sandwich and immediately thought about all of those little cafes I have passed by in my life thinking that the sandwiches probably wouldn't be good (because I'm too picky and weird) and never even gave them a chance to prove their goodness to me... this little sandwich changed my perspective on cafe sandwiches. It may sound strange but it's true! It has been a whole week and I am still thinking about that sandwich and cant wait to find a french pastry shop in NYC!
That croissant was also magnifique and I have no pictures of either one because I am a savage.
If you find yourself on a Niagara Falls tour that heads to Niagara-On-The-Lake, do yourself a favor and eat lunch at this place. You will not be disappointed. Pinky promise.
